1 Samuel 2:18-26
Watchword
And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the Lord and men.
1 Samuel 2:26 NKJV
Your self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence are measures of how you feel about yourself. They are also the measures of how you think the person whose opinion matters most feels about you. So if you have high self-worth, it is because your spouse, your kids, your parents, your friends, or people around you all of them think you are worth a lot or at least you think they think that. It’s your perception that matters here. How we think they feel about us, that’s how we feel about ourselves (Psalms 139:14).
Samuel was God’s own child and he was aware of this. He knew his own value, because he knew that he was growing in God’s favor. Samuel knew he had God’s favor, so he was confident to spend his life speaking for God to fulfil the roles of judge, priest and prophet of Israel. God’s favor on Samuel gave him the confidence to let God use him to shape the history of the nation and, therefore, the history of the whole world (Jeremiah 29:11).
As believers, before and above everything else, you are God’s own child. You belong to him because you belong to Jesus. You are loved, you are that valued and you worth that much. The life of God’s own child is yours. Jesus traded in all of His worth as God’s own child to make us children of God. So now God approves of us, we know that in Jesus we have God’s favor. In our daily lives only one opinion should matter and that is God’s. So what we should feel about ourselves must be how God feels and thinks about us. (Colossians 3:10).
Confession
