Main Text
Galatians 5:1-18
Watchword
David would save neither man nor woman alive, to bring news to Gath, saying, “Lest they should inform on us, saying, ‘Thus David did.’ ” And thus was his behavior all the time he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.
1 Samuel 27:11 NKJV
An act of spiritual or physical, compromise no matter how small, makes it easier to compromise the next time. Even a tiny step in the wrong direction sets us up to take the next step sooner or later (Galatians 5:9)
David required ruthless tactics like total extermination because of his deception. In his raids, David killed all the men and the women so that his lie to Achish will not be exposed. Much later in his life, David will have a far more notorious season of sin with Bathsheba and end up killing her husband Uriah to cover his sin. (2 Samuel 11:15)
The root of David’s vice that was nourished in this text manifested many years later by David killing Uriah to cover his sin, just as he did here. Our failure to deal with the tiny spiritual cracks in our heart will produced a life of greater transgression. (2 Samuel 12:9-12).
Confession
Father, thank you, for releasing on me the grace to lay aside, confess and forsake every weight and sin that easily beset me.
Prayer
I pray for the grace not to compromise against you and your word due to the circumstances I may find myself. Amen
