WALKING BY THE SPIRIT

Walking by the Spirit means doing what we do each day by the Spirit.

Main Text: Romans 8:5-8.

Watchword: The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. (Isaiah 11:2) NKJV

God is always with us, as the One who is in us. We must live our lives in all their details from waking up in the morning until going to sleep at night by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit. Apart from the gracious influences of the Holy Spirit, none of our desires or inclinations is holy or good (Romans 8:7). For we always act according to our strongest desires.

Walking by the Spirit is what we do when the desires produced by the Spirit are stronger than the desires produced by the flesh. This means that “walking by the Spirit” is not something we do to get the Spirit’s help, but rather, it is something we do by the enablement of the Spirit. Therefore, walking by the Spirit is something the Holy Spirit enables us to do by producing in us strong desires that are by God’s will. (Ezekiel 36:26-27)

Walking by the Spirit is more than gifts, it is walking like Christ, who submitted to the Holy Spirit every second of His life. So to walk by the Spirit, we have to know the Bible and let it dominate our minds. We cannot manipulate our situations or our actions merely on our willpower, but we can give the Spirit room to work when we meditate on His Word. We have a new King, and we live for a new Kingdom. Let us show it as people of His Word, and as those who walk by the Spirit.

Confession: Heavenly Father, thank you for being there with me in every step I take. Help me to walk by Your Spirit so that my thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions can testify that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me.

Prayer: Oh Lord, help us to keep in step with You.
