The Secret of A Blessed Life

A Daily Devotional with David Olatona — THE SECRET OF A BLESSED LIFE

*Main Text*
Joshua 1:1-9

*Watchword*
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8 NKJV

This text is packed with practical lessons of challenging concepts to help us grasp the principles of a Spirit-led life. The key to real prosperity and success is God’s Word. It’s all about getting more of God’s Word into us. Sometimes we misunderstand what it means, “to succeed” or “to prosper”, (which has given rise to many prosperity teachings) which places the emphasis on temporal, worldly prosperity rather than eternal spiritual wealth. (Colossians 3:16)

God gave Joshua the formula for success in the promised land: “If you don’t deviate from the law, you will have success wherever you go. If you don’t depart from the law, then you will be successful and prosperous. Meditation keeps divine truth in the forefront of our minds, where we can easily find it in moments of great need. After reading a passage, we must remember it from time to time during the day and ask ourselves what it says about our present experience.(Deuteronomy 5:32)

God is saying, It’s not enough just to know the Bible, to have certain scriptures written on your wall or in your wallet. You need to meditate on these things and work to understand them deeply! (Deuteronomy 17:18-20) A fine set of rules is not going to get us through to our ultimate spiritual destination. What is important is to know the Word of God; to trust the Word of God and to apply the Word of God in every circumstances of life, for in so doing we will certainly prosper and succeed in all we do to His praise and glory. (Romans 8:28)

*Confession*
Lord, cause me to pay attention to your Word always and cause all I do to prosper under your leading and guidance.

*Prayer*
Oh Lord give me the grace to treasure your word in my heart – for I desire to prosper in all that I do, to give glory to Your name. AMEN.
