THE LORD HEARS AND DELIVERS
Main Text
Psalms 34:1-10
Watchword
I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4 (NKJV)
We find here the grateful acknowledgment of past deliverance and the sweet sense of security for all time to come, under the loving guardianship of God. First the psalmist speaks to himself by recalling the peril and the prayer, giving thanks for the gracious deliverance. God granting the help, implored the Divine answers to our prayer. Deliverance is sent down, God makes and shows “a way of escape for us in trouble (Psalms 34:19).
There may have been times when we too may have been in sore straits. In our perplexity and fear we may have resorted to our own devices, and stained our souls with sin. But God is merciful, He did not cast us off. When we cried to him, he forgave us our iniquity, and delivered us from all our fears. God’s deliverances bring gladness. We see in them the outshining of his love. We have looked to him in faith, and he has looked on us in mercy. His response has been quick and gracious (Psalms 22:24).
The psalmist prayed to the Lord who heard him and rescued him from what may have been a terrifying experience. The Lord delivered him from the “object” of the fear, and not just the feeling of fear. The dread of the future is often a heavier care than the distress of the present. How often would it be a great relief if we could see the forthcoming issue of things! But this cannot be. Hence fears arise, and we are tempted to say, “am I shall sure to win?” Looking up to the Lord will do for us as it did for the Psalmist (Isaiah 12:2).
Confession
Thank you Lord, for you redeemed life from the clutches of the evil one, and delivered me from all my fears.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask that from this day forward as I seek you, you will hear my cry and answer me. Amen.
