The Blessing of Worship

Main Text
Psalms 95:1-7

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High
Psalms 92:1 NKJV

Adoration (a sense of deep love and respect), one of the numerous expressions of the various acts of worship is used in this text. When we speak of giving thanks to the Lord we are talking more about praise, than simply thanksgiving. We are acknowledging God for who He is, for His actions. (Psalms 107:21-22). Singing is a valid and wonderful expression of gratitude to God, honoring and worshipping God have many different aspects and expressions. We should worship God in any available and honoring way. It may be thanksgiving, singing, or declaration because of who He is (the LORD, Most High). (Psalms 71:22)

There is yet another sense in which “good” refers to worship as appropriate. It is morally good, it is proper to respond to God with praise. God’s activity in the world is intended to bring praise to Himself (Ephesians 1:6, 12, 14). Jesus told the woman at the well that God is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23). Worship is one of the most worthy of all activities, it brings pleasure to God as well as pleasure to us. (Psalms 33:1). The relevance of worship is the principal theme of this text and worship is a splendored activity.

The other expression of our worship is “singing praises”. So the worship of God is expressed by praising Him “ (Colossians 3:16). Music is a significant part of our worship experience because it is one means by which we may express our gratitude and adoration toward God. Praise is good, it is a delight because it is brings great joy and fulfillment in the life of the devoted believer. Praise is also good because it is appropriate and nothing is so becoming to the saint as praise. There is fulfillment and satisfaction in doing what we were created to do.

Oh Lord, we worship You in the beauty of Your holiness and bow down before You in reverent praise, for You alone are worthy to receive all honor, glory, praise, blessing and worship.

Help me Lord, to grow into the sort of worshipper that you are seeking, one who worships you in spirit and truth. Amen.
