Standing With Others

Main Text:  Samuel 30:21-25

*Watchword*

For who will heed you in this matter? But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike.” So it was, from that day forward; he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.1 Samuel 30:24-25 NKJV

David’s actions in this text present to us a model for doing things God’s way. It also illustrate once more David’s fairness and concern for the welfare of his people. If God has been good to us, we should also be good and fair to others. David insisted on rewarding equally those out on the front lines with those staying back at the camp. (John 3:27)

We must work as a team, David made this a principle for Israel to abide by. David chooses to stand for what is right, and in the process, he establishes a principle which outlives him. The good, or the evil, which we choose to do, sets a precedent for the future.

In distributing the spoil, David was just and kind. David stood with the ‘weary ones’ and gave them an equal share. He would have remembered the many times these men had battled for him. He knew their inability to help this time was only due to sheer exhaustion. Can you show the same empathy that David showed to his weary men to people around you? (Philippians 2:3-4).

*Confession*

My father my Lord help me to be patient in dealing with others in Jesus Mighty name.

*Prayer*

Oh Lord, enable me to stand for what is right to set a good precedence for the next generations. Amen.
