Main Text: Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name; Make His praise glorious. Psalms 66:1-2 NKJV
Praise is what we offer to God in the acknowledgement of His excellent being. Praise is an act of Christian worship, a freewill expression of grateful hearts. You might think that praise is the same as saying “thank you,” no, there is a big difference. Thanksgiving describes our attitude toward God for what He has done, while praise is offered for who God is. (Psalms 18:3). All believers are commanded to praise God because praise is one reason we were created (Isaiah 43:21). Parents must teach and encourage their children to praise God (Psalm 78:4).
Praise originates in a heart full of love toward God (Deuteronomy 6:5). Without the love of God, any praise you offer is empty. Love, born from a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, is an essential part of our praise. Praise can become an integral part of our lives as we learn to expressed our love to God in song, in words or in prayer and it is to be done without ceasing.(Psalms 34:1; 71:6).Praise to God is expressed outwardly through our everyday actions, as well as inwardly in our thoughts.
You may be wondering, how to start giving praise to God, first, try praising God for who He is to you personally and proclaim that God’s goodness is without measure; it is abundant and overflowing. (Psalms 135:3). Tell God how great He is by considering His attributes: He is all-powerful, all-knowing, present everywhere, sovereign, love, holy, etc. Explain why you love Him and share gratefulness for what God has done for you. Then sing songs of praise to God. Praise to God can be offered anywhere and with time, it will become as normal as taking a breath.
Confession
Heavenly father, you are worthy of my praise because You are the God who formed, knows, loves, feed, and blesses me.
Prayer
Help me Lord, to grow into the sort of worshipper that You are seeking, one who worships You in spirit and truth. Amen.
