A Daily Devotional with David Olatona – 13/07/2020 – THERE IS SAFETY IN WISDOM
Main Text:
Proverbs 1:1-33
Watchword
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
Proverbs 1:32
A man who chooses the way of sin will inevitably arrive at the destination where all sinners go—death and destruction. God may choose to be silent for a while, and sinners foolishly think He approves of their wicked lifestyle because they are not immediately judged (Ps 50:16-21). He warns that without repentance He will judge terribly, and only those who live righteously and praise Him shall receive His favor.
Christians often fret at the apparent prosperity and success of sinners. (Proverbs 24:19-20). Take a look at the celebrities and politicians in our nation many have made their wealth through unrighteousness. Yet, these people are getting a fair amount of our young people’s attention. Our children need to be taught that the nature of God’s blessing is not in the things of this world but is in the restoration of our covenant friendship with God.
This is a valuable lesson which every believer need to learn. Don’t rely on knowledge and works while falling away to complacency in your relationship with God. Keep your fellowship with the Father as the utmost priority in your life otherwise, you might believe all is well, when it might be the exact opposite. Just as a seed contains the future plant, so our refusal to listen to wisdom contained the seeds of our ultimate ruin.
Confession
Oh God, grant me listening ears to hear and a Spirit-enabled heart to heed to your wisdom.
Prayer
Lead me Lord to your City of Refuge……let my God given wisdom guard me to the place of your protection. I will not be stranded.
