Read Part One of POWER OF YOUR WORDS here
THE CURRENCY OF HEAVEN
The only thing that moves God is not your tears, not your emotions, not your feeling, it is your FAITH. Your faith moves God. God is not moved by your shouting or your screaming, or by your rolling on the ground, He is only moved by your faith. Everywhere God sees faith, he operates.
“Faith is the currency of heaven”
To buy anything in America, you use the Dollar. Even if you use credit or debit card, it is still money. What operates in heaven is your faith. Faith helps you get heaven’s attention.
In Jairus’ story, Jesus in that prayer saw faith. He saw faith in the man for leaving his daughter at home. He saw faith in the prayer of the man so He just followed. While He was going with His disciples, the crowd was following Him, there was an interruption; the woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus’ garment and He stopped. She got her miracle by touching the helm of His garment so Jesus asked “Who touched Him”. The disciples answered that everyone had been touching Him. So the woman came out and told her story. Jesus said “Go in peace, your faith has made you whole”. Meanwhile Jairus was still urging Jesus to come with him quickly to his house. He saw on Jairus’ face that he had a problem—he was anxious. To crown it all some guys came from Jairus’ house and said “Don’t disturb the Master anymore, the girl is already dead, it’s a closed case”. Jesus heard what they said to Jairus and interrupted the discussion so that Jairus will not uproot what he said earlier. What Jairus said earlier was, “I want you to come to my house, lay hands on my daughter so that she will be healed and she will live”. Now there’s negative news that just showed up that the worst has happened. If Jairus changes the words at this point, it will nullify what he said earlier. That is what is wrong with many of us. We say it well at the beginning but because the pressure is high and it doesn’t look like the mountain is moving or anything is changing, we begin to give up and stop waiting and confessing. We start to accept it as our cross. What you simply did was to uproot everything you said as a farmer and you’ve just planted a new seed. The new seed you just planted is what is going to grow because you uprooted the one you said before.
Jesus didn’t want Jairus to uproot what he had said before, he had to step into the discussion fast and he said to him in verse 36 “Do not be afraid, only believe”. Jesus was simply telling him to hold on to what he had believed, DON’T GIVE UP. Even when the pressure is high, when it looks as if the mountain is not moving, it looks as if the weather is not changing, it doesn’t look as if anybody is coming to be a blessing to you, or your body is not changing or things are not happening, JUST HOLD ON to what you believe. Don’t be afraid because the news they brought to Jairus was to create fear in him.
ALWAYS A MATTER OF CHOICE
Every point in our lives we are faced with two choices, “To be afraid or to walk in faith”. Fear filled words will bring you failure and defeat but faith filled words will give you success and victory. So Jesus said to Jairus, don’t be afraid, just believe. What would you do if you were in such a situation? It may look as if you’ve said it over and over again and still no solution? If you don’t have the inner strength to say anything, just keep quiet until you can muster enough strength to go back to what you used to say. It is what you say over and over again that you see. So Jairus kept quiet. When they got to the house, Jesus met professional mourners who cried profusely and He told them the girl was not dead but sleeping. Jesus at that point wasn’t playing with words but to diffuse the atmosphere. The atmosphere in that room was thick and dark so it lacked faith; fear was being exhibited. Jesus lightened the atmosphere by saying, “The girl was not dead but sleeping”, and then everyone mourning before began to laugh in mockery. It is easy to wake someone who is sleeping than to wake someone who is dead. After the mockery, Jesus asked everyone to leave the room, He was left alone with the father and mother of the child and those who were with him, and He entered where the girl was lying and said to her, “Talitha cumi” because she was sleeping. The moment Jesus said she was sleeping and not dead there was EXCHANGE. Death left through the window even though He wasn’t in the mood yet. It was not the use of words; Jesus simply declared what he wanted done. He declared that the girl was not dead but sleeping outside the building so by the time he got into the building, death had already gone because the girl was sleeping. So all He needed to do was to say, “Little girl, wake up” because the girl was sleeping. That’s why we must never forget that there is power in our words. Your words determine your future, your health, your wealth, your place in eternity.
YOU ARE THE PROPHET OF YOUR LIFE
Before anybody speaks into your life, you do the speaking first. You are the first prophet of your life. The words that you speak arrive at your future before you do. The words of your mouth create desires; they transmit images that you will eventually live out. That’s why you need to be careful what you say with your mouth. In order words, the WORDS of your mouth frame your WORLD. Whether in your place of work or in your home, or at school, anywhere, your words frame your world.
Your words set the course of your life rolling; not what somebody said over you. If you don’t take what God said and speak them over your life, it will only be lying fallow and nothing is going to happen for you because you didn’t take what God gave you to speak it over yourself. Your word establishes strongholds. Your word helps to break habits. Your word helps to change things. Your word helps to redirect your thought pattern because if you hear yourself over and over again, you will change the way you think and once you change the way you think, you change the way you behave. Words spoken today become a living reality tomorrow. Whatever negative you spoke is what yo are probably seeing now. The same way you said it is the same way you’re going to uproot it. Uproot it with your mouth so that you can begin to see better days ahead of you.
ONE THING IS NEEDFUL
In Luke 10: 38-42 Jesus entered into a city and he went into the house of Martha and Mary. As soon as he entered into that house the bible says in verse 39, “And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needful and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her”.
What is needful is the word of God. When Jesus entered into the house, Mary and Martha were home and He began to teach the word. Martha was too busy with serving, cooking, washing…it is not wrong to be busy, but if you are busy to neglect the word of God that will change and transform your life; then you are busy for nothing. Meanwhile, Mary sat at the feet of the Master listening to the word. And while she was listening, Martha came in and said, “Master, my sister just sat down listening to you but I have been in the kitchen preparing what you will eat. Won’t you tell her to come and assist me? Jesus answer that one thing is needful. You have to choose the word if you must use your tongue right. You can’t say what you don’t know.
In the midst of everything you do, “One thing is needful”. Create time to have God’s word in and around you. If you are going to speak what God wants you to speak, you must hear Him. That’s why in your car, it must be God’s word playing. In your office, it must be God. In your home, it must be God. When you are walking alone, it must be God; just as Proverbs 4:20-22, recommends “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings, do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find the; and health to all their flesh”.
“It is what you have in excess around you that determines what comes out of your mouth”
That’s why God said in Joshua 1:8, “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that which is written in it. For then, you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success”.
THE RAISING OF LAZARUS
The difference between Mary and Martha showed up later when their brother died.
In John 11, the Bible says they sent a message to Jesus that Lazarus, his friend, the brother of Mary and Martha is sick. By the time Jesus got there, Lazarus was already dead and four days in the grave. Jesus got to the entrance of the city; Martha approached Him and had a long discussion with Jesus. But in spite of their long discussion Jesus didn’t move from that point because when it mattered most, the word was not there. The word that can move the Master from that point was not there. So Martha had to go and call Mary. Jesus didn’t ask after Mary but Martha was convinced calling her sister Mary would move Jesus. The only thing that moves God is faith and faith comes by hearing the word. When Mary came, Jesus moved because she was loaded with the word. Mary said almost the same thing Martha said to Jesus but with a difference. Jesus told Martha that Lazarus will live again and Martha answered; yes in the resurrection. Martha postponed the day of Lazarus rising; but Mary didn’t postpone it because she had faith. Mary took Jesus to the tomb of Lazarus because she had faith in Him and the bible says when Jesus got the tomb, HE WEPT. Martha was saying, “By now his body is stinking because it’s been four days since he died. But Jesus told her “if only you believe; you will see the glory of God”. Mary had faith by the word; she had heard enough of the word from the Master.
CHOOSE YOUR WORDS WISELY
What you give yourself to is what you will produce with your mouth. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks
What you give your eyes to, what you give your ears to, what you give your mind to, all the time; that’s what becomes abundant in your heart. And once it is abundant in your heart, it will come to your mouth; and when it comes to your mouth it will frame your world. The only way to take care of your tongue is to take care of your heart. You can take care of your heart by checking what you see with your eyes. What you give attention to goes to your heart; and when it comes out of your mouth, it frames your world.
“The words that you speak give permission and license to spiritual forces to work for you or against you”.
Psalm 141:3
