How Sin Entangles Us

Main Text
Hebrews 12:1-13

Watchword
Then Achish would say, “Where have you made a raid today?” And David would say, “Against the southern area of Judah, or against the southern area of the Jerahmeelites, or against the southern area of the Kenites.”
1 Samuel 27:10 NKJV

Not only was David living among his nation’s enemies, David had also allowed lying to become a normal practice for him. David now fights wars for profit, instead for God’s honor. (Proverbs 12:19).

You cannot walk away from God and go off into the world and not be affected. David became deceptive, referring to himself as the servant of Achish. David knew that eventually, the Philistines will insist on a sign of loyalty from him, so he had his anticipated plans. David’s plan begins with proposing to become a vassal of King Achish. (Jeremiah 17:9)

David was once a man who despised the Philistines because they mocked the God of Israel, yet now he was living among them, seeking refuge from his nation’s enemies. (Jeremiah 14:7).
