God’s Word Is True And Right

Main Text
Psalms 19:7-11

Watchword
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
Psalms 19:9 NKJV

The benefits of God’s word here is that it champions righteousness and abides forever. “Fear”, in this context, is to be understood as an expression of reverent awe and respectful worship. The word of God is meant to bring about in us a reverential awe of its divine Author. Judgments or “ordinances” refers to an act of deciding a case, as in a court of law. And so, the word of God gives us the judicial decisions of God concerning what is right, and good, and just. His word settles disputes, and answers all the questions of right and wrong that we might have (Psalms 145:17).

The judgments of the Lord are “true” in the sense that they are firm and reliable; and they are “justified together”, when they are held in union with one another, they prove to be utterly just. Truth and righteousness are joined or united in God’s judgments, no doubt in many profound ways. There is no inconsistency or inequity in them and it endures forever (Psalms 116:5). And when God speaks it is always true. As God reveals Himself to us in His word, He tells us the truth about things. He tells us the truth about sin, about forgiveness, about heaven and about hell. His word is true and it never misleads and is never ambiguous.

The fear of God instructs in the matter and manner of worship. And nothing more powerfully engages to serve the Lord with reverence and godly fear than the Gospel does. And this is “clean”; and the doctrines direct to the blood of Christ which cleanses from all sin, and to the righteousness of Christ. It promises to put the saints on cleansing themselves from all filthiness of flesh and spirit. And the whole of it is the word of truth, by which God and Christ sanctify the church.
(John 17:17).
