GOD’S WORD IS PROFITABLE
Main Text
Psalms 19:7-11
Watchword
Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalms 19:11 NKJV
Though our aim for serving God should not be for the reward, but to please Him, yet we will have the best reward for our willing, sincere and heartfelt services. (Colossians 3:23). Our service to God should be borne out of love and affection we have for Him, and not for other selfish reasons. God’s word offers the greatest profit, not just for keeping them, but in keeping them. God promises abundant and rewarding results if we strive to keep His Word by preserving, protecting and obeying it. As believers, the fulfilment is not just the paycheck at the end, but in the work and service itself.
In other words, the keeping of God’s commands is a reward in and of itself. The wonderful and motivating truth in this text is that we have rewards for keeping and obeying God’s word. We do not receive rewards from God because we have somehow earned or deserve them. We have all sinned and fall short of God’s glory, we don’t deserve rewards but God’s judgment. But God saved us by his grace, and God rewards us by His grace as well. God in His grace promises rewards for those who keep His commands. (Deuteronomy 5:33)
This addresses the fact that every person has free will, the ability to choose whether or not to obey God’s Word. Furthermore, any person that rightly chooses obedience to God’s Word ultimately earns a “great reward”. There is great reward in keeping God’s commands in this life, and there is great reward afterwards as well. (Psalm 16:11). We enjoy the great reward of walking the path of life now and eternal pleasures later as well. As servants of God who keep his commands we experience joyful service in the present and great reward in the life to come.
Confession
Oh Lord, reveal more of yourself to us as we read and hear your word, so that we can be more complete today than we are yesterday.
Prayer
Oh Lord, help me so that I will not miss what You have for me in Your Word daily. Amen.
