Psalms 19:7-11
Watchword
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether
Psalms 19:9 NKJV
This text deals with the inherent qualities of God’s Word. The Fear of the Lord is a reverential trust, which emphasizes the human response fostered by God’s word, while ordinances or judgments are the judicial decision God has recorded about various human situations. We all know that life is not fair, because there is much injustice in the world, but it is a comfort to know that our God is fair and will work all things out in the end (Psalms 111:7-8).
The clean is really speaking of a spiritual cleanness that comes from the fear (reverence of God). Spiritual filthiness brings death, but righteousness in Christ brings eternal life. Jesus is the righteous Judge of all the earth (2 Timothy 4:1; 8). The fear of the Lord is clean, that is, it has a purifying effect on us and it endures forever, it does not change (1 Peter 1:24-25). You see, the purifying effect of God’s word is that it shows us how to be in right relationship with God and that relationship is something which endures forever.
The word of God is clean, and therefore is enduring forever. It will never fade or corrode, diminishing because of impurity. It is clean and it makes clean. God’s word gives us a true guide as to how God would have us live. In a world filled with such uncertainty, with so many competing opinions of right and wrong, God’s word serves as an indispensable tool for the believer. In it we have a sure and certain word from God Himself. It is perfect, it is sure, it is right and it is pure, it is clean and it is righteous. What a description of the word of God (Deuteronomy 32:3-4).
Confession
Everlasting father, thank you for the surety and lasting glory of your Word, let it always be the fountain where I will drink from.
Prayer
Oh Lord, give me the grace to trust your ever unchanging truth word. Amen.
