GOD’S BLESSING CHANNELS THAT KEEPS

Main Text
Genesis 27:18-29

Watchword
May God give you of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth and plenty of grain and wine.
Genesis 27:28 NKJV

“May God give you” is both a prayer and a prophecy and the blessings bestowed here are plenty, victory, domestical preeminency, and outward prosperity. Plenty, heaven and earth concurring to make him rich. He mentions the blessings of fertility upon the soil, prays for Jacob to be blessed with wealth in the form of the dew of heaven (meaning moisture for crops) indicates rain in due season in the right amount. “Fatness of the earth and plenty of grain and wine” indicates rich soil, as well as mineral wealth. (Deuteronomy 8:8)

God give thee of the dew of heaven is the rather mentioned, not only that the dew makes the earth fruitful on its plentifully falls because the land of Canaan, the portion of Jacob’s posterity, much needed it. Rain falls there but it seldom, so the country is dry and thirsty. They had rain but twice a year; the former in spring (seedtime), and the latter rain in autumn. The fertility of a land is seen in its produce, grain and wine, which are common elements in the lists of the produce of the land of Canaan (Deuteronomy 8:7-9; 2 Kings 18:32).

Our current culture thinks of blessing primarily in the aspect of material and physical things. However, in the ancient times, they valued the idea of the family covenant blessing or promise than material thing (Genesis 17:18). Believers in all ages should not only delight in receiving the grace of God in Christ, but also recognize that we must insist upon absolute righteousness, purity, and truth in our methods, or else we shall bring utter discredit on the cause of our Master and Lord.

Confession

Oh Lord give me the grace to walk in your blessing and goodness today. Amen.
