Main Text
Romans 12:1-3
Watchword
And God said to Abraham: “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.
Genesis 17:9 NKJV
God outlines Abraham’s obligations in the covenant. God expect Abraham to pay careful attention to His laws and statutes as his obligations in the covenant. As there are promises of blessings and favors in covenant with God, so there are obligations and responsibilities.
As believers, we are taught an important truth here that the joyful, willing response to God’s grace is to keep the covenant. The appropriate response to God’s grace in the covenant always entails obedience, faith, and commitment. (Psalms 19:14). The demands that God makes of Abraham here are ultimately designed to enhance Abraham’s faith.
The prime thing that God is after here is commitment. God is calling on Abraham simply to be absolutely committed to Him in this relationship. God is calling us to loyal faith which evidences itself in obedience. We must recognize our obligations to God, and be committed to Him perpetually. (Ephesians 4:1)
