THE GOODNESS OF GRATITUDE

Main Text
Psalms 36:5-10

Watchword
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.
Psalms 92:2 NKJV

The manifestation of worship used in this text here is “declare”. “Declare” means “to make known” in an even broader sense. We can make something public that has been private. Worship involves proclaiming God’s goodness to others, God is exalted by our public praise. Worship provides us with the opportunity to say publicly of God what we should be saying privately to Him. Worship is declaring God’s goodness and greatness (Psalms 116:5). We have seen that worship involves the declaration of God’s lovingkindness and faithfulness morning and night.

And then, at the end of the day, it’s good that we thank Him by declaring “His faithfulness every night”. It’s good to look back at the end of the day, recount the ways that He has proven His faithfulness to us, and thank Him for each of them. The “night” in this text also suggest many “watches of the night” (Psalms 63:6-8). There may be many times in the night when we are awake, perhaps to fret over the events of the day, or worry over what may happen tomorrow. It is good, at such times, to declare God’s faithfulness, even at that watch of the night!

The easiest way to feel the presence of the LORD, is to praise Him. God loves all of the ways we praise because He inhabits the praises of His people (Psalms 22:3). This is really not an obligation, but is like a freewill offering. It is such a little thing to praise God, for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us. There are a number of ways to praise Him, and they are all good. Prayer, of course, is a way to praise Him. Some lift their hands toward heaven with palms lifted up and praise Him. Another beautiful way to praise God, is to testify aloud of His goodness and majesty. Share something really wonderful He has done with others.

Confession
Heavenly father, thank you for making me in your own image, and for all the many blessings and benefits that you have bestowed on me.

Prayer
Teach me Lord, how to worship you in the beauty of holiness so that I may be one that bows my heart before you in spirit and truth, to the honor and glory of your name. Amen.
